Learn how ’bots sense, think, and act as you explore dozens of interactive exhibit stations. Fun and the ultimate robotics education collide in this new addition to Carnegie Science Center, the largest permanent robotics exhibition in the world!

As students rove the gallery and come in contact with all kinds of robots, they will get a first-hand look at the broad range of career opportunities available in robotics. More importantly, roboworld™ shows students that robotics impacts all other industries and is a very accessible career path that is possible for all students, no matter their interest.

Your field trip isn’t complete without a visit to roboworld™, a one-of-a-kind robotics experience that will be the highlight of the school year.

Students, meet the robots.
Our robots’ favorite thing to do is meet students and show them why they have found themselves at home in roboworld™. Here are just a few of the ’bots who have given new meaning to sensing, thinking, and acting.

Sensing
TUG™

Robots have become increasingly more common in hospitals and nursing homes. In hospitals, TUG™, Aethon’s Automated Robotic Delivery System, is transporting bulk materials, medications, and meals. Following pre-programmed routes, TUG™ uses a navigation system that does not require embedded tracks or path routes. Using sensors, TUG™ avoids obstacles and continues on its task. In roboworld™, the TUG™ Zone allows students to watch as it moves around obstacles and shows students how sensing robots are impacting the medical field.

Thinking
Athina

While it once was seen only in the movies, artificial intelligence is a developing technology that likely will become very advanced in our lifetime. Athina, our Chatbot, is a prime example of this technology. Programmed by Carnegie Mellon University, she answers tons of questions and has her own personality. Athina cannot answer every question, so CMU logs the questions visitors ask to add more to her ‘brain’. As time passes, Athina will become smarter and even more impressive.

Acting
Hoops

This student favorite is back—but with a twist! Hoops, our basketball-shooting industrial arm, shoots free-throws with high accuracy. As a new addition, students can shoot baskets in competition with the robot. While this robot is highly entertaining, it also is a perfect example of an acting robot. Hoops was once used as an industrial robot, highlighting the fact that robots can be re-purposed and are extremely useful across different platforms.

Join us for a Robot-Themed Field Trip!
A perfect addition to your unit on technology, physics, computers, and more! Carnegie Science Center offers completely robot-themed field trips for students in grades K–3, and robotics-focused field trips for students through grade 12. Our staff also can help you book robotic presentations in our Science Stage and arrange time for students of any age to rove our roboworld™ gallery. Are you ready to go robotic?

A Bot-Tastic New Theater Show
Robot Revue

Come on stage, and be part of our interactive robot costume show! Accessorize with the tools robots use to think, sense, and act. Model the latest fashions for robotic exploration on land, in the sea, and out in space. Dress for success as a debonair ‘droid, and greet the robot revolution in style!
