StormFest

Can crickets really tell the temperature?
Why is the sky blue?
Can an earthquake happen in Pittsburgh?
How does GPS really work?
Is there weather in space?

Explore the Earth sciences – geography, geology, meteorology and more – at StormFest, an educational festival designed specifically for middle school students in partnership with California University of Pennsylvania. Interact with Cal U students and faculty and other professionals in the fields of geography, geology, meteorology and other geosciences. You can also check out weather-related Omnimax films like Hurricane on the Bayou. Activities meet Earth & Space Science national science content standards for grades 5-8.

Weather Jeopardy
11 am and 1 pm, February 29

Test your weather knowledge in this highly-interactive meteorological gameshow. Host and “Hurricane Hunter” Major John Gordon will quiz you on categories like severe weather, meteorological images and record-breaking weather phenomena. As Meteorologist-in-charge of the National Weather Service Forecasting Office in Louisville, Kentucky, Major Gordon uses advanced technology to improve weather forecasting accuracy.
